Environment

We conduct all our activities in a manner designed to protect and sustain the environment in which we work. OTTCO is committed to a programme for environmental sustainability that is in keeping with globally recognised standards and expectations. We understand that in the 21st century, businesses operating in the Oil & Gas industry must adhere to the most advanced criteria for environmental responsibility.

Our sustainability model is designed to respect and protect the integrity of Oman’s natural ecosystem. We are particularly focused on the preservation of the Sultanate’s beautiful Indian Ocean coastline, as well as its abundant flora and fauna. OTTCO’s business activities are compatible with this balanced environment and comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations. We communicate frequently with the government, public and NGOs to share our experience with organisations invested in environmental management and improvement, including the Ministry of Environment and Climatic Affairs.

Community engagement

OTTCO regards itself as a responsible corporate citizen and an important part of the community. The ministerial support that we have received in the course of our development is driven by the expectation that we will contribute positively to Oman’s economy, and we have every intention of delivering on that promise. Our business is designed to operate in such a way that it identifies and supports the economic needs of the communities in which we work.

Our community engagement programme has a strong focus on ‘giving back’ to the Omani people. We owe our existence to the Omani government and society and we are committed to providing jobs and developing the knowledge and expertise of local people. Our outreach aims, particularly, to benefit the people of Oman’s Wusta region in both the short- and long-term, fostering pride and support for our business. Support for our local community is a high priority for OTTCO, and this commitment exists among employees at every level of our organisation.

Health and safety

We believe that strong HSSE performance will determine the success of our organisation. We treat the health, safety and security of our employees as priorities on par with every one of our business objectives. OTTCO adheres to the strictest standards of health & safety across all its operations. We are invested in the welfare of our employees and contractors, and operate all our facilities in full compliance with both local and international standards of best practice in HSSE.

We maintain and enforce strict health & safety codes and guidelines for employees in all locations and at every level of the company – from the Head Office to the Crude Oil Park. Regular drills, practices and training sessions will ensure that, in the event of an emergency of any size, we are ready to respond quickly and effectively. Our HSSE team regularly reviews and evaluates the personal risks associated with our operations to ensure that our employees and contractors work in the safest possible environment.

FAQs

Below is a selection of frequently asked questions about our business and our industry. We value openness, transparency and clarity in everything we do. Communicating clearly and coherently about our business is an important part of our day-to-day work.

OTTCO is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Oman Oil Company and has been created to become the Middle East’s leading crude oil storage provider. Our vision is to facilitate the uninhibited flow of oil to the world. We operate a world class oil storage infrastructure, providing best-in-class service, connectivity and flexibility for regional and global customers.
Oman is an ideal location for storing oil. It is a stable and secure country with excellent international relations. The storage facility that we are developing will provide a long-term future for Oman’s position in the region, and will guarantee the region’s oil exporting countries unhindered access to global markets. Ras Markaz is strategically located 1000km south of the Arabian Gulf and the Straits of Hormuz, close to a number of the Indian Ocean’s busiest shipping lanes.
Our storage, blending and bulk services will add value to Oman’s oil industry. The Ras Markaz Crude Oil Park’s close connection to Duqm Special Economic Zone will enable customers to refine, import, export and store crude oil. Our recently launched floating storage facility at Mina Al Fahal has delivered an immediate strategic storage solution for customers and seeded our path to growth. We look forward to delivering similar, innovative solutions to the market in years to come.
We are part of a $15 billion project portfolio currently being constructed in Duqm, which is Oman’s largest existing infrastructure project. Phase 01 delivery of our Ras Markaz facility by 2019 is part of the Oman Oil Company’s vision to transform the Park into a world class crude oil facility. Our own growth is also closely linked to that of Duqm Special Economic Zone. The facilities that exist at Duqm Refinery and Duqm port, in particular, are important contributors to our business, as we are to theirs.
Our interim floating storage solution provides over 2 million barrels of crude oil storage to three customers on board a VLCC at Mina Al Fahal in Muscat, Oman. We have a clear, phased timetable for the delivery of Ras Markaz Crude Oil Park. The first milestone (Phase 01) will be realised in 2019, when we will be making up to 10 million barrels of onshore storage available.
OTTCO will contribute to the economic transformation of Oman by bringing skilled jobs and opportunities to the Wusta region. We are committed to ‘giving back’ to the communities in which we work, and to contributing to Oman’s long-term growth. In environmental terms, we are committed to protecting Oman’s unique and fragile ecosystem. The Sultanate’s Indian Ocean coastline is of particular relevance to our operations, and we have developed a sophisticated environmental responsibility programme that will ensure its preservation.
